Because of Christmas dayBecause of Christmas day

I know most know this popular Christmas carol that says:

Mary’s boy child Jesus Christ

Was born on Christmas day

And man will live for evermore

Because of Christmas day.

Long time ago in Bethlehem

So the holy bible say

Mary’s boy child Jesus Christ

Was born on Christmas day.

Hark now hear the angels sing

A king was born today

And man will live for evermore

Because of Christmas day…

It’s a song that inspires me a lot, especially the part that says: “and man will live for evermore because of Christmas day”, because that is really what should be the goal of Christmas day.

It is written in Ecclesiastes 3: 1, “to everything there is a season, and a time, to every purpose under the heaven.” If so, there is a reason for the birth of Jesus Christ on earth. This is what the passage says: “and man will live for evermore because of Christmas day.” Regardless of when Jesus Christ was born, its purpose must be fulfilled in our lives. Otherwise, it will not be of any benefit to us. This Christmas carol contains many things that the bible also confirms to us.

And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David: to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the lord came upon them, and the glory of the lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”  (Luke 2:3-10), for unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising god, and saying, glory to god in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising god for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. » (Luke 2 :11-20)

Verse 19 says that Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. Which means that Mary kept and pondered all these things about Christmas day in her heart. Of all the reactions of each other to the birth of the savior Jesus Christ, the reaction of Mary, the biological mother of Jesus must challenge us on Christmas day every time we want to celebrate it. Mary meditated on these things in her heart. What about you?

Mary meditated there because of the merits of Christmas day. This is what I call the goal of Christmas day. This goal of Christmas day or the merits of Christmas day is to live for evermore or to have eternal life. This is what the passage in the Christmas carol tells us: « and man will live for evermore because of Christmas day », eternal life.

« for god so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For god, sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only-begotten son of god. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in god. » (john 3: 16-21)

Because of Christmas day, we have eternal life by believing in Jesus Christ of Nazareth. In other words, because of the birth of Jesus, we have eternal life if we truly believe in him. Believing in Jesus requires keeping and pondering Christmas day or the birth of Jesus in our heart as Mary did and not in any other way. Otherwise, we risk resembling the people of Matthew 15: 8-9, « this people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honored me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men ». Also read mark 7: 6-7; Isaiah 29:13.

How do you usually celebrate Christmas? Never forget this verse and meditate on it day and night: “whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of god” (1st Corinthians 10:31). The birth of Jesus constitutes the light, the glory and what more is the salvation prepared before the face all people, and our eyes must see this salvation as Simeon saw it, « … for mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; a light to lighten the gentiles, and the glory of thy people israel. » (luke 2: 25-32)

Do you really want to achieve the goal or the merits of Christmas day? It’s living forever or eternal life, as the Christmas carol says. It is written: “and this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true god, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17: 3). Jesus came to show us the father who is none other than himself. Jesus said: « if ye had known me, ye should have known my father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him ». (john 14: 7). He also said: « I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins » (john 8:24).

Do like Mary, the mother of Jesus according to Luke 2:19. Meditate and pray with this verse: “search me, o god, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”(Psalm 139: 23-24)

Jesus said: “… him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out.” (john 6:37). Come to Jesus, he has open arms to welcome you and freely give you eternal life if and only if you believe in him with all your heart. All of this is based on repentance, faith, and many other things that you are sure to need. Study Hebrews 6: 1-3. Jesus is coming soon. May the goal of Christmas day be achieved in your life! In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
