Prostate

ProstateProstate trouble is frightening to every man who takes time to understand the anatomy of the male organ and the delicate position and function of this vital organ. Starting at age 45 years the problem may become obvious but really it starts at a much younger age of even teenage years.

The major symptoms in the case of an enlarged prostate is generally the urge to urinate constantly, with frequency increasing steadily, if no action is taken to remedy the situation. Another general symptom is pain that accompanies an attempt to urinate, with a burning sensation. There is often difficulty starting and stopping urine flow. Also, there is often urine dribbling. When you think urination is complete you experience dribbling, noticeable in your underwear, sometimes very embarrassing also getting up at night to urinate. Weak stream with stopping and starting. Blood and purse may accompany urination.

Clinically the doctor does digital rectal exam and blood test that screens for levels of PSA (Prostate Specific Antigens) a protein generally found in the prostate secretion.

The focus of this book is not to be your medical doctor, but to keep you informed of ways you can help yourself to prevent such situation early enough.

(a)   Do your best to control and possibly reduce you blood cholesterol level because it accumulates in the prostate gland.

(b)   Increase circulation in the prostate by eating garlic always.

(c)   Pumpkin seed are good for the prostate because it is high in zinc, which is a dominant element in the prostate.

(d)   It is very important to stop or reduce the consumption of caffeine drinks like tea and coffee, alcoholic beverages like wine, illicit gin (ogogoro), beer, spicy foods, etc.  Tomato is a food item in question; some say it is good to avoid it, others say it is good to eat it regularly especially fried, paste form or stew, use it nature is mysterious. You may want to show moderation if in doubt.

(e)   With prostatitis, it is good to increase fluid (good water) to help with constant evacuation, bladder cleansing, prevent dehydration, kidney troubles and infection.

(f)    Cold and allergy medication cause urine evacuation thereby putting pressure on the prostate. Show moderation and good judgment.

What to Eat

Zinc

It is important to consider the role of zinc in prostate problems. Prostate problems are generally associated with cases of zinc deficiency.  Brewer’s yeast is a good source of zinc so also garlic and pumpkin seeds. Too much of zinc tablets can depress your immune system, so stay with natural sources or see your doctor about zinc amounts you need or use good multivitamins with zinc.

Garlic

Prostate problems may be a result of infection or may be an environment for infection. Furadantin, which is generally used pharmaceutically to treat urinary infection, contains sulfur. So does garlic, because it contains this substance. Infection in the bladder due to enlargement of the prostate creates a pouch at the base of the bladder, allowing water/fluids to accumulate and is stagnant. It decomposes, forms crystals in the bladder and ammonia. This situation causes pain due to infection. When this happens, the kidneys get involved and urinary wastes accumulate in the circulatory system.

Where you cannot afford a doctor, do not have the money, quick consumption of garlic in your diet, neutralizes and detoxifies the entire body circulatory system. It cleanses wastes, toxemia and poisons with a sulfur penetrative power found abundantly in garlic.

Among the elderly, garlic-cleansing effect on intestinal germs, bring absolutely good result, because the germs responsible for putrefaction are cleaned out. This prevents toxins (poison), from being absorbed into the blood stream, causing ill-health.

If the prostate enlarges to the point of total obstruction of urine, the person may have to be catheterized (Putting a tube into the bladder through the penis). If surgery is the option, the person may end up wearing a bag to collect urine, or the urethra may be connected directly to the bladder, when the prostate is removed. Why not start to avoid such by taking daily vegetables with raw garlic.

Concentrate on raw, green leafy vegetables, green beans, lettuce, carrot, cabbage, parsley, spinach, broccoli with raw garlic, it works wonders to your health in 7-12 days consistency. Do not mix garlic with potatoes, corn, and starchy foods. It is advisable to replace your salt with garlic powder. Avoid lamb and pork in your diet, because of weight gain, which affects the prostate in a way.

We should at all times be positive, optimistic, and remember that nature has a way of correcting the human body if supplied with the right and correct amounts of nutrients and supplements. Good nutrition is the foundation of good health, sound immune system and a healthy lifestyle.

Recommendations

(a)   Yearly rectal exam during which the prostate is checked

(b)   Avoid cold weather, and dress warm. Temperature affects an enlarged prostate.

There are some ways other than medication or surgery to take care of the prostate, before the problem, develops and may become cancerous and fatal. Zinc has been established by medical research to be the most important component of the prostate fluid, and therefore every nutritional consideration must emphasize zinc.

The general guide is to break the diet into the four main food groups and bearing in mind zinc as a major requirement.

  1. 6-11 servings of cereal, bread, grains and simple carbohydrates.
  2. 3-5 servings of vegetables and 2-4 servings of fruits.
  3. 2-3 servings of milk products if they do not create gas or constipation for the individual.
  4. Fats, oils and sweet to be used sparingly.

The food groups should be consumed in little doses at a time. Fruits and vegetable are welcome any time and vegetables are better mixed with garlic.  This food combination in little doses allows for proper mastication and easy digestion, hence the avoidance of constipation and indigestion.  This also helps reduce pressure on the    prostate.  Always include garlic in your meals, if available, else take one capsule before each meal, this minimizes the smell too.

There are certain nutritional needs that need to be met for a healthy prostate.  The food items must include good sources of zinc, such as pumpkin and sunflower seeds.  Garlic is a must, because it destroys disease causing germs, has a lot of zinc, and it is a natural antibiotic.  Some other substances include bee pollen, rich in mineral and trace elements; wheat germ with lots of vitamin E.

Despite the areas discussed, a healthy lifestyle requires certain changes in habits; and these include:

  1. Self-stimulation, mentally or visually causes serious arousal with no ejaculation, it is bad for the prostate.
  2. Always evacuate the bladder and colon as soon as nature demands it, since delay puts pressure on the prostate gland and causes irritation.
  3. Constipation that extends to the rectum puts great pressure on the prostate and must be avoided.
  4. Walking exercise is highly recommended. Bicycle riding puts pressure on the prostate, so avoid it, if a person begins to notice signs of enlargement.
  5. It is essential to drink clean and enough water, but limit drinking such toward nighttime to avoid frequent waking up to urinate.
  6. Eating vegetables or fruit only, once or twice a week is a good idea, detoxifies the body.
  7. Fasting one day a week, drinking only water, is a good habit to aid a healthy lifestyle.

The causes of prostate problems are several depending on age, lifestyle and habits.  These include alcohol and tobacco excesses, indigestion, constipation, overeating, fear, over and under sex, long hours of sitting or standing; delay in voiding the bladder or colon, overweight, deficiency of vitamins and the mineral zinc; wrong food combinations, lack of walking and exercise; frequently delaying to ejaculate during sexual intercourse. All these put pressure on the prostate. Avoid any infection that affects the reproductive or urinary systems because the prostate will get involved.
