A QUIET MOMENT WITH GOD

LOVING THE LORD IS SIMPLE. HOWEVER, SOMETIMES WE CAN STRUGGLE WITH READING AND UNDERSTANDING GOD’S MESSAGE TO US. THIS BIBLE PLAN IS DESIGNED TO BE A DAILY GUIDE THROUGH GOD’S WORD, HIS PROMISES AND HIS DESIRES FOR OUR FUTURE, BOTH ON EARTH AND IN HEAVEN, AS TRUE BELIEVERS, Study – (Psalm 119:105).

WEEK # 20

When a Christian talks about setting their affection on things above, they are talking about heaven and the holy city New Jerusalem from above, where Rev.21:7, will be fully manifested, stating, “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”

Day 1

Colossians 3: 9,10,16, “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Set your affection (mind) on things above.

Remember the song, “Happy Day.”

Colossians 3:1-4

Romans

6:1-16

To be risen with Christ involves the process of salvation, that comes through acknowledging that one is a sinner and desires to repent and be forgiven not by man but by God through Jesus Christ who is the only mediator between God and man. He shed his own blood on the Cross of Calvary for you. That makes him the only one that can forgive sin. There is no other way. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life.”

When you are saved, you get it by the truth of the word of God, And Jesus is the only Way; when you are saved you go from death through sin to Life which is by Jesus Christ Only.

If you are not saved, then you have no business with “setting your affections on things above (heaven). Your affection will be on things of hell, lake of fire and death. But if you are saved then you can set your affection on things above: Where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For when you are saved, ye are dead to sin, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

Col. 3:5-17

Galatians 2:16-21

Alway remember that if you are saved, reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lust thereof.

If you are truly saved then, then you can say, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

If Christ be in you and you know He sitteth on the right hand of God, then truly set your affection on things above. Let not sin have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey: whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness.

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; the works of the flesh such as fornication, idolatry, lies, covetousness, and more; for which things sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience.

Col. 3:2, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Rom. 6:9, “Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.”

Day 2

Romans 5:12, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”

Rom. 5:18, “Therefore, as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”

Sin shall not have dominion over you

Remember the song, “At The Cross.”

Romans 6:14-23

Rom. 3:10-26

Rom. 5:15-21

Since Adam and Eve disobeyed God in Eden, and sin came into man; man has lived in sin and the fear of death till God came in the likeness of sinful man to pay for the judgment of God and reconcile man back to himself in the person of Jesus Christ.

After that Jesus Christ was of virgin birth by the Holy Ghost, he grew up and preached to the world the gospel of heaven and how to get into it. He announced it to Nicodemus when he told him that to enter the kingdom of God, a person must be, “Born Again.”

When a person is truly born again and the spirit of God comes into him and teaches him the ways of the Lord, then if he stays faithful to it, sin shall not have dominion over you or the person.

This is because you are dead to sin, also Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death. And the life which we now live in the flesh is by the faith of Jesus Christ. Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son, yes his kingdom.

Jesus is both Father and Son and the Holy Ghost. He played all the roles and fulfilled all the functions. He is all in all. That sin shall not have dominion over all faithful believers.

Rom. 7: 1-25

1st John 1:1-10

Ye have become dead to the law by the body of Christ. We are no more married to the law but to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

After you have been saved, if you go after worldliness, in no time, you will return to sin and bondage of the devil.

Remember Heb. 2:14-15, “For as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil. And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

Sin is bondage and if sin has dominion over you then you are in bondage. The choice is always yours. What is it that will make you after salvation to start on a trail back to life of sin and bondage. Lust, according to James 1:14-15, “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” But as a faithful Christian; sin shall not have dominion over you.

Ist John 2:15, 16. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

Verse 16, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Day 3

Special Writing #78, Mark 11:22-23, Jesus said,”Whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe the things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatever he saith.”

If you notice in this case, you not only have to believe what God says, but also believe what you say and command.

Faith

Remember the song, “Farther Along.”

And

“Let’s talk About Jesus.”

Heb. 11:1-20

2nd Cor. 5:7

1st Cor. 16:13

God devoted Hebrews 11, to men and women that were examples of faith. Faith is complete trust or loyalty or belief or confidence in someone, God for the believers in Jesus Christ. It is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

It is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen; (Blessed are those who believe without seeing, that’s ultimate faith).

Faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven and to God. Faith is both a fruit of the Spirit and a gift of God.

Matt. 21:22, “And all things, whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

Study Luke 8:43-48; you will see that inner confidence with you that no man can see or know, in touching Jesus Christ with your own trust and confidence in the word of God by the scriptures. The word is life if taken by unwavering faith.

Faith is the connecting power into the spiritual realm, which links us with God and makes Him become a tangible reality to the sense perceptions of an individual.

Rom 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” This word is ultimately from God, inspired by God through the work of the Holy Spirit; because Jesus also said, “Howbeit when the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak (word): and he shall show you things to come. That is faith when you expect and believe it before it is manifested.

Study Matt. 8:5-13. Faith comes alive when we confess the greatness and powerfulness of God’s word from our heart without doubt. You can only please God by faith and your answer is assured.

Heb. 1:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Heb. 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Day 4

Romans 15:13, “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

Psalm 42:5, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.”

Hope

Remember the song, “When we all get to heaven.”

Eph. 1:17-23

Psalm 62: 1-6

Job 14:7-9

Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen often with a feeling of trust.

Scripturally, hope is the confident expectation of what God has promised and its strength is in His word and faithfulness.

In Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” The word and promises of God that never fail make up the anchor of our hope as Christians. Imagine what Jesus said in Matt. 24:35, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” This confident statement is one of the bedrocks of the Christians hope; because His promises shall surely come to pass, solidifying our hope.

Isaiah 41:1-13

Psalm 42:1-11

Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes.

Hope is like waiting with trust and expectation. Remember, Isaiah 40:31, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

God gives us the power to hope and that is a demonstration of God’s love for us. Hope given by him works together to give us confidence, joy, peace, power and love.

Remember 1st Tim.1:1, “And the Lord Jesus Christ which is our hope.”

Titus 2:13, “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.”

Rom. 5:5, “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”

Day 5

CD#1002 Divine love – Eagle’s claw, “Divine love believeth all the bible and tries to see the good in everybody even though by the eye and by the ear, and by that way of looking, you cannot see anything. This is a deep kind of divine love and faith. It is long-suffering. Wisdom is divine love Divine love sees both sides of the argument, Amen, and uses wisdom.”

1st Corinthians 13: 8, “Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.”

Charity

Remember the song, “Love Lifted Me.”

1st Cor. 13:1-13

1st Peter 4:1-8

Matt. 22:34-40

Charity is the highest form of love. All men may have the gift of love, but Charity is bestowed only upon those who are true followers of Christ. It signifies the unique selfless love God gives to us and is expressed in our own selfless love for others. By loving selflessly, without expectation of receiving, we are able to love as God loves.

Jesus spoke about the two greatest commandments on which hang all the law and the prophets; and love (Charity) is a common and important factor. How do you measure yourself on this scale?

Charity suffereth long, is kind, envieth not, is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, thinketh no evil and is not easily provoked. Thinketh no evil.

1st John 4:1-21

John 14:15-24

Matt 25:34-46 helping those who are in need. Compassion is a very important aspect of Charity. Charity involves generosity and helpfulness, especially towards the needy or suffering. Study Matt. 25:43.

Love will cover a multitude of sins, when applied correctly on a person who needs to be restored.

Love not this world . Even if you give your body or life for any reason and hath not charity you are nothing and it profiteth you nothing.

Charity rejoiceth not in iniquity,, but rejoiceth in the truth. Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity faileth not.

1st Cor. 13:13, “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”

1st John 3:23, “That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.”

Day 6

Psalm 95;6, “O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our maker.”

Isaiah 43:21, “These people have I formed for myself; they shall show forth my praise.”

Worship

Remember the song, “How great thou art.”

Matt. 2:1-11

Psalm 100:1-5

Heb. 12:28-29

Rev. 4:8-11

Worship is wonderment: God is in heaven and we are on earth. We call on him and he hears and answers us. He created us and gave us the breath of life, who are we to think of anything but to worship him who made us, cares for us, died for us, saved us and is getting ready to translate us to a dimension we have never known. He commands our worship of him. For this is marvelous in our sight.

Worship is transformative: Worship of our God changes our lives through salvation. We must always love and appreciate what God did for us on the Cross of Calvary. Believing in what he did in Christ Jesus we are instantly transformed when we confess our sins and shortcomings and ask him to be the Lord of our lives. Then are we preserved in Him. And we are translated from death to live and that deserves our unconditional worship of Jesus Christ the Lord of glory.

Worship is renewing: When you are down and out, or when you wish to be renewed; the way is to worship the Lord. Acknowledge his greatness and our inadequacy, in all things.

Psalm 145: 1-21

John 4:19-24

Luke 2:25-35

David praised, prayed, fasted and worshiped the Lord. God called David, a man after my heart.

David made God his strong Tower, He took as his Shepherd, he took as his Salvation and much more. He said, Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. The Lord preserveth all of them that love Him. He will fulfill the desire of all them that fear Him: He also will hear their cry and will save them.

When you count your blessings one by one you will see why you must give Him all the worship. Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good:sing praises unto his name for he is pleasant.

Isaiah 43:11, “I, even I, am the Lord, and beside me there is no Savior.”

Psalm 100:3, “Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

Day 7

Proverbs 3:26, “For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”

Confidence

Remember the song, “Draw Me Nearer.”

Provb. 14:16-35

Heb. 10;35-37

1st John 5:14-15

Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; a firm trust. A feeling of self assurance arising from one’s trust in the promises of God to the believer. For instance a true believer does not fear death, because the life you are now living is hidden with Christ in God. If death comes and your time is up you go straight to God. That is why martyrs do not fear to trust in the promises of God that He will be with you always. Even Stephen while they were stoning him to death he was praying for them and seeing the Lord in heaven. Death to the believer is like taking a nap or going to sleep. The reason is because of the confidence in believing the word and promises of God. That is where the confidence of the believer is. Where is your confidence?

Worshiping the Lord increases our confidence in Him; for then we know that all power belongeth unto Him.

Heb. 13:6

Phil. 1:1-30

Our confidence as believers in God is based on scriptures. Proverb 14:26, “In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.” This confidence comes from the fear of the Lord; and what is the fear of the Lord? “I hate evil; pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate,” (Prov. 8:13).

Fear of the Lord implies Love for the Lord; for a believer.

Besides, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction; according to Proverbs 1:7.

Heb. 10:35, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath a great recompense or reward. And 1st John 5;14, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us.” How is your confidence?

Phil. 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing that he who hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
