They were witnesses to Jesus
Meditate about these things
Matt. 27:50-54, left witnesses and the unusual. Jesus, when he had cried on the Cross again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. This loud voice set in motion the unexpected and the unusuals. Behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose. And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
In John 11:25, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.” You see resurrection, is the rising from the dead of a divine or human being who still retains his own personhood, or individuality. Though the body may or may not be changed. Jesus when he rose from the dead (resurrection), when they saw him, they still identified him; but in some cases he changed his appearance.
Those that rose from the grave were great witnesses that there is a resurrection of the dead. The graves were opened and many bodies of the saints (saved) which slept arose. Now this was very clear, the citizens of Jerusalem must have gone into a panic; seeing graves opened, the dead rose, but stayed put and did not come out, waiting for a certain command or event. The third day, Jesus rose from the dead (resurrection); then those that rose from sleep or death came out of the graves. That is the resurrection of the dead, and again, it will soon happen repeat when the Lord says come up hither as the elect body is caught away to heaven, (the translation/rapture)
Those that rose from sleep (death), went into the holy city (Jerusalem) and appeared to many. Who knows who and who rose from the sleep and who they appeared to and what they said. More than likely they appeared to the believers, to encourage their faith and may have appeared to others; and family members where it applies. To leave a witness that Jesus was risen and is Lord of all. Now this was a foreshadow of the real translation, that the Lord God allowed then and promised to repeat in an hour you think not. Be ye also ready and faithful.
Soon some of those that have slept in the Lord will arise and walk among us who are alive. Do not doubt it when it happens, whether you see it or hear of it. Just know it is around the corner, get yourself ready and your household, and those you can reach; for all to be sure and make their calling and election sure. Soon it will be too late. Wake up, watch and pray with soberness.
Study Genesis 50:24-26; Exodus 13:19; Joshua 24:32; maybe Joseph was among those that rose up, remember he said carry my bones with you to the elders of Israel in Egypt at his death.
Also Job 19:26, “And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.” Maybe he was one of those that rose from the grave. Simeon may also have risen, and people who were still alive and knew him, would see him again, as a witness, (Luke 2: 25-34).
