Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

Colossians 3:5-10; Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

Galatians 5:19-21; Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Acts 17:16; Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

1st Samuel 10:6,7; 11:6; 16:13,14,15,16; And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee. And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

1st Samuel 15:22-23; And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Psalm 51:11; Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

Remember that Idolatry can cause the Spirit of God to depart from a man and of course evil spirits will have a place to walk into and make an abode. Some similar cases; Saul was anointed but when he disobeyed God by the word of the prophet the Spirit of God departed and an evil spirit from God entered him. Remember how he visited with the witch of Endor and God intervened and allowed Samuel who was dead and in Paradise to come and give Saul his last prophecies and how and when his end will come.

Samson, the Spirit of God departed from him,but as he repented God restored and he did his final judging of the enemies of Israel. How many find it easy to repent. Remember also that Adam and Eve after they associated with the serpent they got polluted from purity, and the glory of the Spirit of God departed from them; they could not fix the mess they got into and were sent out of Eden before they put their hand on the tree of life and be lost forever. Also Lucifer, fallen angel, demons, all lost the Spirit of God that was worked in them through Lucifer wanting to be like God and be worshipped. This led to rebellion and stubbornness, which is as iniquity and idolatry; all found in Saul the king ; so the Spirit of God departed from him.  Even today the Spirit of God is departing from such people and an evil spirit takes over. Watch and avoid anything that will lead to idolatry, and Paul said, “Flee from idolatry.”
